We've joined PlaceShapers – a national network focused on people and places
We’ve officially joined PlaceShapers - a national network of more than 100 housing associations committed to building strong, community-led places.
Published: 04/11/2025
The network brings together organisations that believe in acting local, putting residents first and shaping neighbourhoods through partnerships.
Membership offers us the chance to learn from peers, share best practice, and contribute to shaping national housing policy through a collective voice.
A local approach with national impact
Despite being a large organisation, we take a local approach to our homes and services for residents. In recent years, we’ve introduced smaller neighbourhood patches and a dedicated local repairs service, bringing us closer to residents.
Joining PlaceShapers reflects our commitment to learn from others, be open to feedback and continually improve.
As members, colleagues across the organisation now have access to learning networks, events and webinars across the UK, practical resources, case studies showcasing service improvements, and the chance to contribute to a shared voice in national housing and community discussions.
We'll also be able to share our own experiences and successes with fellow members, helping to shape the network and influence positive change locally and nationally.
Ian McDermott, Chief Executive of Peabody, said: “We applied to join PlaceShapers so we can learn, collaborate and connect with others, helping us to continuously improve the way we work in local areas.
“We’re large, but locally focused - working across 140 neighbourhoods to provide comfortable homes and support strong, successful communities and sustainable places. We know each neighbourhood has its own characteristics, and in recent years we’ve put in place measures to get closer to residents and wider networks, including a regional structure, smaller patches and localised repairs services.
“We’re looking forward to connecting with PlaceShapers members, which will help us on our journey as we develop and deepen our effectiveness as a truly place-based organisation in London and surrounding counties.”
