Self-Belief Community Hub to open in Acton, supporting young people to build their futures
A new community hub inspired by the legacy of Jamal Edwards MBE will open in Acton later this year, creating a dedicated space where young people can connect, create and build confidence.

The Self Belief Community Hub is being launched by the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust on the Friary Park estate in West London, where Jamal grew up with his family. We’re working in partnership with Mount Anvil and the Trust to help bring the project to life.
The Hub will open in spring, just two minutes from Acton Main Line station. It has been designed for 18–31-year-olds, especially those facing barriers to long-term, fulfilling employment. The Hub will offer a safe and welcoming place to spend time, develop skills and explore creative interests.
The space includes music and podcast studios, creative co-working areas, lounge space and a shared courtyard. There will also be a subsidised kitchen serving daily meals, alongside a programme of activities focused on creativity, wellbeing, life skills and employability.
Together with Mount Anvil, we’ve provided the Trust with a 10-year rent-free lease and contributed funding to fit out the building.
A key part of the Hub’s work will support young people who are navigating personal or systemic barriers. For these members, access will be fully funded. They will also receive free meals, weekly support from youth workers, employability programmes and help to access paid opportunities, internships and mentoring.
The Hub builds on the Trust’s existing work. Since it was set up in 2022, more than 110 young people have taken part in its Self Belief Launchpad programme, with many reporting increased confidence and greater belief in their career opportunities.
Friary Park is currently being transformed to provide new homes, including 315 for social rent and 455 for London Affordable Rent. The plans also include new public spaces, a community kitchen and garden, and affordable workspace for local businesses.
Phil Jenkins, our Chief Investment Officer, said:
“From the first time I met Jamal, it was clear how much he believed in young people. He worked with us to engage local young people during the early stages of the estate regeneration. His commitment to helping others have better life chances continues to inspire many of us.
“We’re pleased to support the Self Belief Community Hub and to help create a space where young people in Acton feel welcome, valued and able to build their futures.”
The Hub is rooted in Jamal’s belief that young people need opportunities, encouragement and space to thrive. In the neighbourhood where his journey began, that belief will have a permanent home.
