Free Hackney careers event to help young people take their next step
Young people in Hackney are invited to a free careers event which aims to help them explore their future and connect with work and training opportunities.
Published: 27/02/2026
The “Own Your Future” event will take place on Wednesday 4 March at Pembury Community Centre, during National Careers Week (2–7 March). It is open to 16 to 25-year-olds who are thinking about work, apprenticeships or further training.
On the day, young people will be able to meet employers, ask questions, and hear what different jobs and careers are really like. Some organisations attending will be offering work, apprenticeship or training opportunities in the local area.
There will also be free CV support and careers guidance, as well as soft drinks, snacks and freebies.
Exhibitors on the day will include housebuilder and developer The Hill Group, construction and property services company KBH Haus, design, engineering and project delivery company AtkinsRéalis, and security company City Group Security.
The King’s Trust will also be there to share information about local programmes and support available to young people.
Opening doors for local young people
The event is organised by Peabody Community Foundation, our charitable arm. It is part of wider work to help young people move into jobs and training, including raising awareness of careers in housing and construction.
We also offer apprenticeships through the Peabody Academy, giving people the chance to earn while they learn and build a career in housing.
Cecile Bouchet, Economic Inclusion Lead at Peabody, said: “Hackney is full of talent and ambition. This event is about making sure young people know what support and opportunities are available to them locally.
“By bringing employers and careers advice together in one place, we want to help young people feel more confident about their choices and take a positive step towards their future.”
