With more than 700 members from a wide range of sectors, the UKGBC is at the forefront of changing how we design, build and look after communities and infrastructure so they're fit for the future. Joining the UKGBC will help strengthen Peabody’s commitment to sustainability and aligns closely with the requirements of the Sustainability Reporting Standard for Social Housing, which Peabody helped create in 2020.
“This is a great way for us to learn and share best practice at scale,” said Richard Ellis, Director of Sustainability. “We can help influence the future of sustainable housing and match our ambitions with action. By working together, we can build a better future and help bring the voice of social housing to the conversation.”
Peabody is committed to sustainability as outlined in its ESG Report and Sustainability Strategy and is on track to be net zero in its rented homes by 2050. In the year to the end of March 2024, it spent £371m maintaining and improving residents’ homes. It also invested millions of pounds improving the energy efficiency of homes as part of the government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) programme.
As many as 98.4 percent of Peabody's new homes had an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of B or above at the end of March 2024, and 78.6 percent of all Peabody homes are rated EPC C or higher. The higher the rating, the easier the home is to heat, which helps reduce residents’ bills and the home’s carbon footprint.
