Peabody retains top RITTERWALD rankings proving it’s serious about sustainability

Peabody RITTERWALD

We have retained frontrunner status in all three categories of RITTERWALD’s Certified Sustainable Housing Label, showing we’re serious about embedding sustainability across the whole organisation.

This is the fourth time we’ve received the certification, and the second consecutive year we’ve achieved the top ‘frontrunner’ status in all three categories of environmental, social and governance (ESG).

RITTERWALD highlighted the way we’re embedding sustainability and climate resilience into long-term decision-making. It also praised our Peabody 200 programme, which sets out how we plan to improve homes and shared spaces in the lead-up to our 200th anniversary in 2062.

Last year we invested £27m in sustainability programmes, including improving the energy efficiency of more than 400 homes. We also invested £9m in local communities, providing 65,000 hours of free activities and helped boost residents’ combined income by £3.5m following referrals to our Financial Inclusion team.

The accreditation reflects our focus on ensuring homes and neighbourhoods are fit for the future, alongside our commitments to net zero goals and resident and community wellbeing.

Richard Ellis, Director of Sustainability, said: This recognition is really encouraging and a great way of showing how seriously we take sustainability. We’re working hard to make sure residents’ homes are resilient, well maintained, and able to meet the challenges of a changing climate, while also strengthening communities and the business for the long-term.”

Ad Hereijgers, RITTERWALD’s Director of Business Development and Sustainability Lead, said: “Reaching the frontrunner ranking in all ESG dimensions for the second year in a row demonstrates that sustainability has become part of Peabody’s current and future operations”.

During the year, we held special training sessions for members of the Board and Executive team to help support decisions around climate risk. We also trained 250 line managers on what sustainability means at Peabody and expanded our network of Sustainability Champions to help drive awareness and action.

Our Peabody 200 change programme aligns long-term financial sustainability with net zero targets, climate resilience, and community wellbeing. It incorporates ESG principles and climate risk analysis into decisions on asset investment, regeneration, and long-term neighbourhood plans.

The Certified Sustainable Housing Label is an independent accreditation used to benchmark ESG performance in the housing sector, and is recognised by companies and investors across Europe.
